Dillenia

Dillenia is a genus of about 60 species of flowering plants in the family Dilleniaceae, native to tropical and subtropical regions of southern Asia, Australasia and Indian Ocean islands.

It's genus is named in honor of German botanist Johann Jacob Dillenius, and consists of trees and shrubs perennial or biennial. The leaves are simple and spirally arranged.

The flowers are solitary or in terminal clusters, with five sepals and five petals, numerous stamens and a group of 5-20 carpels. They are superficially similar in appearance to the flowers of Magnolia.
