Wild Dagga

The Leonotis Leonurus, also known as "Rabo-de-Lion", in English or Wild Dagga is a plant species of the genus Leonotis and family Lamiaceae (Mint) native to southern Africa.

For more than thirty species of plants from family Lamiaceae Leonotis genus, but only L. nepetifolia (Cord's ear), shares the entheogenic properties of L. Leonurus. The main difference between species is that L. nepetifolia blossoms into a prickly ball.

Recreational uses
L. Leonurus is smoked or made into a medicinal tea by the Hottentots tribe of South Africa "Leonurus L." is used to induce a deep meditative sleep, calming, relaxing and enhance dreams. Because of its euphoric effects, the "Leonurus L." is often called surrogate Marijuana (Cannabis).

The species' Leonurus L. "is also used in Oriental Medicine as euphoric, purgative, and vermifuge.

Medicinal Uses
The pharmaceutical company "Newstar-Chem" reports possible applications:

"Treaty which was irregular menstruation, uterine bleeding. In animal experiments also indicated that the product might increase the peripheral vascular, coronary and nutrition of the heart muscle."

In common usage the leaves are picked, dried, and then prepared as a tea.
