Glottiphyllum

Glottiphyllum is a genus of the family Aizoaceae (Aizoaceae). The botanical genus name is derived from the Greek words "γλωττίς (glottis) for" tongue "and for" φύλλον (phyllon) for "hand off" and refers to the tongue-shaped leaves of some species.

Description

The plants of the genus Glottiphyllum grow compact to mattenbildend with few to many branches. Most species have short, thick rhizomes. Their tap roots and adventitious roots are thickened. The shoots are erect to prostrate.

In gleichblättrigen species are the leaves and kreuzgegenständig ungleichblättrigen species arranged two rows. The leaves are thick or flat belt at first and later-or tongue. The epidermis contains bladder cells, which are often extended along the edges of hair while they are reduced at the sides.

The stalked or sitting flowers are apparently individually. However, it is monochasiales Anthocladium prior to the shoot axis alternately leaves and arrange the Endblüten. There are four sepals present.

The deep-yellow petals, rarely are white at the base, are fused at the base, forming a funnel. There are 150 to 250 (rarely up to 500) stamens present, whereas staminodes absent.

The capsule fruits are eight to nine (rarely five to 14 -) fächrig. The seeds are greater than 1 mm and rarely smooth.
