Malus

Malus is a genus of trees and shrubs, which includes several species cultivated for its fruits, like apples in different varieties, also receiving the names of Pomer, sagarrondo, maciƱeira, etc. ..

Characteristic

Deciduous trees and shrubs, with leaves usually simple, sometimes lobed, serrated. Flowers usually in clusters umbelliform, white or various shades of pink or purple. They have five sepals, five rounded petals and stamens 15-50, anthers usually yellow.

The fruit is a pome and usually crowned with persistent calyx, and their form depends on the variety, but is usually round or ovoid. It includes about 35 species native to temperate zones of Europe, Asia and North America. Some species are very important fruit trees. (Apples).

There are over 7,500 species of apples. The different species are found in temperate and subtropical climates since the apple does not flourish in the tropics, because they need some frost.
